Riding on one wheel question

So I was bored and started messing around in a parking lot/straight empty roads. On Youtube I see all these FZ8 just power wheeling their bikes... I can't get mine up at all! and if I do it's just a small like few inches. Or the back tire will like not get traction So... I started playing with clutch up ones. I was getting small little popups but then switched so I clutched around the 5-6k rpm and the thing just comes up! Had a few scary moments.. where I felt it was pretty high but in reality it was probably like only 1 foot off the air lol! Anyways I feel like my problem before was my throttle control and not "blipping" it... Any advice/help? Also After I get it up any tips on keeping it up?

Haha. Do you have to reposition your throttle? Because after I give it gas and pop the clutch I feel like my hand is kind of twisted too much. Maybe letting off and repositioning could help when in the air.
Cialis :D
Sorry I couldn't help it! Lol... I just do small wheelies too.

Yeah, with stock gearing. You'd wanna gas the heck out of it while popping the clutch. Catch with the rear brake. Try raising your idle a bit so it has some more pull. You'll be dragging rear brake more but you'll catch idle easier.

Clutch it up from a stop light at about 15-20mph and ride it out. Just be coving the clutch and rear brake.

Yeah that's exactly what I want to do! Is hitting the rear break better than letting off throttle to lower it? Also why cover the clutch? Engage it when you hit rear break if in trouble?

Correct, the brake can't always stop the power delivery. But disengaging the clutch will. Its a safety thing, in case you keep giving it gas (AKA whiskey throttle)

I think my issue is I don't have the coordination down yet.... I feel like I am being hesitant with popping the clutch and I am ending up riding it out a little so I'm not getting the front to come up. I have ASV shorty levers and usually pop the clutch with 2 fingers.... Did you adjust your clutch nob so the bike engages farther out? When I got mine, the clutch engaged right away and it felt awkward pulling the clutch in so far to get it to pop. I twisted the nob pretty far so it engages comfortably... hopefully it is okay...

I had mine within spec of the manual. Stock lever. Very little play in the cable.

I have not had the FZ8 for a while. I did have a wreck, but I do know my stuff. Take this stuff with a grain of salt. I would use two fingers to clutch it up. Then cover with one finger while doing a wheelie.

I Never wheelied on purpose. I don't like replacing fork seals or clutch plates. All that said, try launches without breaking the tire loose. Get to know your clutch & don't let the engine bog. That's all I got.

Never once blew a for seal. If you know how to come down, meaning save some RPM range to give on the descend so it softens the landing. You shouldn't ever have a problem. Clutching it up does way less harm than bogging and launching. Shouldn't see much difference even when clutching it up with the plate lives.

Haven't popped any wheelies on my FZ8 yet, but on my old bike (A tiny little 180CC machine), I used pop a lot of wheelies. The front fork seals would leak every other week, and I was bottoming it out (front was too soft). So my mechanic comes with a very brilliant idea, we refilled the front shock with DOT 3 brake fluid, and never had leaky seals after.

I hope I will pop some wheelies once the breakin period is over.

Ok so here is a little trick for you if you have stock throttle setup on your fz8. You need to rotate your hand a quarter turn up above your normal grip position right before you want to do a power wheelie. One of the problems with the FZ8 throttle is there is slop in the throttle. By rotating you grip (wrist) up you gain the extra throttle to do what you need to do. I realized this when I was struggling to get my front tire up and I accidentally did this. Works like a charm for me every time now.
