after working on my bikes for over 40 years, I'm riding to the shop tomorrow for a full on Ohlins fork upgrade. springs & cartridges. "Super plush suspension" is my choice, recommended by a renowned suspension tuner, dave moss. not cheap but hopefully worth it.

What a difference. I got the bike back & even though I haven't fine tuned preload, rebound or compression, the bike feels much more planted. I see the wheel moving up & down but absolutely no movement at the bars. Money well spent. $900 for the Elka shock., $1750 with labor for the Ohlins 30mm fork kit. Best mod I ever did on any bike I've ever owned.

I don't know much about bike suspension, what's the difference in handling with softer and stiffer?

You tube has a lot of information on motorcycle suspension. Loosen both preload adjusters & go for a ride. Now tighten the adjusters & take another ride. In both cases handling suffers. Too loose & the tire wants to wash out & go wide in the turns. To tight you get a bouncy ride.
