i had a sv 650 once that after we trailered it would blow the ignition fuse every time you would crank it , ended up being exposed wire cant remember if it was the brake or clutch either way one of the spade connectors was touching the bars and would short as soon as you hit the starter , prob...
its actually not bad at all after 20 minutes you will be used to it and WOOOOOHHHHTING all over the place .. some bikes will require some cable adjustments most havent ,, def the best mod for the money
you dont have to , but ya want them ponies to breath , if you dont feel like cutting the whole box you can do the 3 hole method does about the same thing ,, since you already have to take it out might as well do it ;)
nice bike , but doubtful on the 5k for trade in on a FZ8 , thats what I paid for mine from the dealer, Id save the money and buy a used Honda CB1000rr or B-king with Abs .. or hell for 15K you can get both :)
ton of cheap seats on ebay , most of us that swapped to a shad had to use the mounting hardware from the OEM , so might best to look for one on ebay complete with brackets ..
Best place to learn about spring rates and what is needed for a proper setup is prob race tech they have a pretty good web page that explains what everything means

If you don't want to do the cartridge swap then you will also need to purchase a fz1 front wheel brakes fender to complete the swap. The more economical choice is just swap cartridges
Everything is direct fit either way you do it.

bring that sucka to raleigh on of these days would love to see it ... gonna try to do the 779 conversion maybe this year still but will prob have to wait till next spring
