Luimoto Gold/Black seat covers +

Dr_Doom was yelling at me to share some info on my seats... so here ya go!

Did two things to the stock seats, one being more obvious than the other. First is the Luimoto seat covers, found here: Team Yamaha Seat Covers for YAMAHA FZ8 FAZER 8 10-12 - Luimoto

They're a little expensive, but I love the feel of them vs the stock. I always feel that stock seat covers like ours are a bit slick so I wanted to swap that out. But, I was thinking that doing that alone would kind of be a waste of money....

Enter Spencer at Great Day to Ride. This guy is able to do wonders with stock seats, gutting them and replacing all the foam with a great honeycomb-like material Supracor. The feel is amazing, and after giving him:
1. my weight
2. where I sit on my seat (forward, middle or rear)
3. any back issues I have (herniated disk)
4. pictures of me on my bike
He was able to customize the placement and amount of gel padding inside. Cost was $75 + shipping there and back, and although he could not do anything with our pillion seat, he replaced the cover with the Luimoto one free of charge. You do NOT need new seat covers for this work.

So. It's great, and relatively inexpensive vs new aftermarket seats.

Those Luimoto covers look awesome. You'll have to give us a long ride report on that Supracor.

Oh, you got it man. I'm planning on taking a long weekend trip with my new tailbag anywhere other than Illinois as soon as the weather gets nice. But from the 2 hour normal rides I took before winter, the seat is already like night and day. We'll see about a good 6-8 hour one.

Just read this on his website-
As of March 1st, 2010 I no longer accept seats shipped from and/or back to addresses outside of the US.

Fuck.

If you notice the difference on a 2hr ride, then that foam is good.

Doom - I'll have to let you ride the bike to see if you like the seat. Your back will though, I'm sure.

Hoover - You bet! See you Monday/Tuesday!

Beefcake - Definitely. Couldn't see just buying half of it, and when that Spencer said he would put it on for me (professionally, as you can see!) that sealed the deal.

Does the stitching inhibit sliding around on the seat when doing spirited riding?

I'd have to let you know this spring. Haven't done anything really quick while I had the new seats. I would say though that if you like to do a lot of track days and such, you might want to keep the stock cover on (or something smooth). Gutting the seat though, that's good both ways.
