lessons learned - GAS MILEAGE issues

I am a jackass. -SIGH-

I usually get 190-200 miles to a tank of gas, and I usually fill up around 170ish.

Today I got to work with 160 miles on the tank... and when I came out after work, I thought I'd be able to make it 15 miles down the road... I made it 7 miles.

what I had forgotten about my riding behavior this week was that I had over 3 days of +90mph commutes... :fiddy:

whooops...

So as I'm diving into my right turn to accelerate up onto the on ramp my girl says "oh HELLLLL NO...." and she sputters and says "get the hell off the road.." pbbbbbbbbbbtt... and I pushed her up onto the grass in the middle of NOWHERE and then had to find so angle iron because my kickstand kept sinking down into the dirt.

my karma angel was hanging around because a nice lady in a hooptie saw me and asked me if I needed a ride over to a gas station. And when the gas station didn't have a gas can, she emptied the windshield washer bottle she had and I -cough- used that to -cough- put a half gallon or so of gas onto and into my tank. ;)

Gotta love good people!!! PAY IT FORWARD BABY!!!!!

it sure was! and when I left that $20 bill on her seat when I picked my helmet up and closed the door she tried to argue and say no, but I smiled and waved. I will definitely be paying her good deeds forward. :)

My last MPG was 42.171, while on average I'm at 43.938. The worst was 39.644, and best at 47.741. At the 4.5 gallon tank that puts me at around the same as calscrazy. (Realistically I'm stopping at 120 miles, I don't like being below 1/3 tank. I burn that one way to work.) Those are all with an average commute around 80mph, some days faster, other days not so much. (I've got every fill-up, service, etc.) We must be hard on the gas. What grade are you guys putting in? I've used primarily 87octane as per the owners manual.

I'm totally stocked: Stock Airbox. Stock Pipe. no fuel management and running 87 gas. I run usually 65-70 during my commute.

Sunday I changed the oil at 6663 miles, so we'll see if that changes anything for this next tank. I'm going to see if my MPG has dropped off at all. I ordered some E3 plugs so I'll probably swap them out next weekend and test MPG again.

looks like we have to drop the radiator to get to the spark plugs... this could get interesting! :)

Jesus 160 would be nice. I dont even get 115 before my light starts yelling at me. Thats if I ride it nice, and we all know how hard you really have to work at riding "nice"! LMAO I need a bigger fuel tank!!!! hahahahaha

so I filled up yesterday and my MPG has dropped from 47mpg down to 41 mpg. However its colder outside, I haven't maintained proper tire pressure, I haven't cleaned out the air filter (and its DUSTY here) and I haven't messed with the plugs yet. PLUS I don't usually ride between 55-70 mph usually... :) (more like 70-80) I'll be checking tire pressure this weekend and might attempt to swap out the plugs as well.

just got off the phone with yamaha. chad, the product specialist, stated the low fuel light should be coming on when there is about 1 gallon left in the tank. if it is coming on before that then you should take it to the dealer. they are not aware of any premature fuel light issues.
