I have the 2011 Model...I have removed the stock Heat Shield and replaced with a handmade polished stainless one, but I tested the stock one with a magnet and only the most powerful magnet I had would stick to it...and even then it was pretty loose on there, which would suggest there is not a lot of ferrous metal content...so my guess would be that it is a low grade stainless, but I am no expert....lol
Mint, thats crazy that you put a polished heat shield on. Because what I wanted to do was to stripp the paint from mine and do a brushed finish to it if it was stainless. I still have the stock exhaust and always will.
