The family in the SUV was being swarmed like a beehive someone poked with a stick!!! I don't know how you would keep your eyes on every one of the [figurative] bees/bikes. They were all over him, weaving in and out of his lane, racing up beside him, slowing down brake checking--I would have done the same thing. Bikers deserved everything that happened to them. There were so many traffic violations in this video its ridiculous! Glad nobody was too injured--but the guy swinging his helmet into my window would have had my .40 shoved down his throat!

Also my doors would have been locked--but it adds credibility to how mentally unstable this pack of wild dogs were at the time.

Just plain crazy...
This is getting a lot of press, and rightly so..... I'm glad to see the police are seeing in the favor of the driver, not the crazed bikers.

They can't do anything to the driver.. One watch of te video we can see whose fault the accident is, and what ensued I see as simple self defense, gang of people are approaching my surrounded family... **** all reason there safety is my only concern and I'm defending them with what I have at my disposal, just sucks for them it happened to be a massive SUV... Next time don't start shit with an SUV because u feel your group is entitled to the road

Most ppl will side with the driver. I also personally side with the driver. As unfortunate as it is, the driver did what he had to do under threat of a swarm of bikers to protect himself and his family. I believe all the biker(who got tapped by the SUV) had to do was stop even if it was in the middle of road and take out his cellphone, gesture to the driver that he's calling 911 for an accident instead of walking up in a threatening matter. All at the same time tell everybody else to move on or back off. Everything could have gone in a civilized way but instead the rider chose to be a menace. I sincerely hope that all those involved are prosecuted to the full extent of the law. As for the rider who is paralyzed, I feel a bit of sympathy for the guy but he was asking it for it. I mean what else do you think a guy in an SUV would do under threat? It is all such an unfortunate incident on both parties involved. This will have a drastic fallout on law abiding riders here in the tri-state area.

A group ride in the city? How is that even fun? Too bad the brake checker wasn't the one who paid the ultimate price. He should be held liable for the whole incident.

my thoughts are that whether i'm on one of my bikes or in my car/truck i will do what i have to protect myself, but i also see all parties being in the wrong here and not just the bikers. if the driver was intimidated by the bikers why didn't he just slow down and let them all pass? thus problem solved. but then the bikers did take it WAY TOO FAR because all they had to do was follow him long enough to get the drivers license plate for him to be completely at fault.

Nobody is totally right, here. The guy in the Rover hit the guy on the bike. He could have slowed down when the idiot brake checked him. He did, however, stop when the collision happened. After that, people with knives surrounding my car would probably prompted me to get th hell out of there just like he did. But yanking him out of the car and beating him instead of tending to a wounded friend seems like the greater wrong, here. Hopefully this teaches a lot of things to a lot of people. The biker who will probably never walk again will hopefully learn the laws of physics (3 ton car hitting 350 pound bike means trouble for the bike). Hopefully the Rover driver learns to pay attention to things in front of him when driving, and that in a group of people, there is bound to be a violent one. And to the other bikers that beat him: learn that retaliation will not bring a friend back. So many lessons in one tragic situation.

If he braked he would have had bikers plowing Into his rear, they were up his ass when the guy stole his lane and brake checked him, no matter what he did this probably would have happened, there like 7 other videos of these clowns driving between cars in on coming traffic, riding on the side walk, blowing threw lights and stop signs all from the same day.... Just being a straight menace and nuisance to the public, it's ashamed about the guy in the hospital but the only person/people who are to blame for that are the man who started it and the dumb asses that tried to defend him when his arrogance bit him in the ass, if every one just did as u recommended stayed on there bikes or help the biker not surround a man and his family in an uproar after u just stormed up on them at highway speed and took over the entire road like your about to hijack them

He probably will be if the criminal charges stick then the family of Jay Mezee can sue him. But odds are the guys only possession is his white motorcycle.

He was going slow. I'd like to get confirmation from a local but they were on the Westside HIGHWAY, and it looked as if they were only going about 30 mph. I looked up the highway and it's listed at 40 mph speed limit, some people posted 50 mph.

And seriously the driver of the SUV was in the right, he shouldn't have to stop because a group of assholes think they own the road. I ride a motorcycle and I'm smart enough not to put myself in harms way.

i would like to know what happened before the video started. i find it hard to believe that the SUV driver did nothing at all to provoke this incident.

That the SUV driver was driving along did nothing and the group just decided to **** with him, is pretty unbelievable.

yeah, i saw em. the biker group is a bunch of idiots, and handled the situation WRONG. But there has to more to this story than some innocent guy and his wife and child getting picked on.

Picking a fight then using your fear for your family as an excuse to run someone over is hoodlum in itself. if that is what happened.

EDIT:
looks like that isn't what happened... my faith in fellow bikers runs too deep i guess. they were trying to slow people down and block off the highway so they could stunt. so nothing happened before the video start, they were trying to slow this guy down to stunt. this is why i left a meetup group in NYC. stunting on the public streets in a big group and riding like idiots.

just stupid.

A NYC rider on the FZ1 forum said these guys are up to crap like this all the time. They run around no license, no insurance, no plates, stunting up and down the street, threatening and intimidating people. NYC became a "no chase" city after one of them died running a couple years ago. So because they know they can get away with whatever crap they are up to, they do it.

The original YouTube poster Michelinman900 had videos of the ride they pulled last year, where the group surrounds and attacks a Prius because the Prius was following the traffic light and going on green.

I have no sympathy for this bunch of morons.
