not sure if you know about the problems thay have had with their tanks but to give you an example i had my monster three years and had to put a tank on it three times. the third one i had to argue to get. it was pressing against my igniton cylinder. ducati claims they shouldn't have to pay for them because of the ethanol in the fuel is whats causing the fuel tanks to swell. the american consumers say ducati should have prepared accordingly. i know alot of owners that sold their plastic tank ducatis and switched brands. the funny part is they are replacing these swollen tanks with tanks that also swell. they aren't fixing the problem. they are just replacing one bad tank for another in hopes that it will go out of warranty soon enough so they can charge $2000 for a new one.

i love my FZ8!!!!

I don't have the spare cash lying around to spend on Italian fickleness. Apparently the higher price buys you more expensive servicing and replacement parts, the "sound" and a bike with "soul".
I'm not sold on anything aside from the new 848...It looks like bike porn!

I have a 2003 Ducati Supersport 1000 as well as the FZ8.
I think get the air cooled 2v ones and you stand half a chance of getting a good one.
My one has the metal tank and apart from a clutch at 20 000 kms, no problems.
Servicing was very reasonable as well, I expecting the worse.
Great on the open road and for touring but a pain round town in traffic.
Also lots of second hand parts around. Lots of the older models fit each others parts.
I would get another 2v aircooled.
