I know i will get a lot of people grumbling to me about this but recently i wanted some music while i ride. Some search led to me to this post but i wasn't about to pay $80 for what essentially a wired speaker. Also sticking an ipod shuffle into the helmet makes it difficult to change song. So i thought to myself how can i make one cheaper.
It turns out, I happened to have on hand a [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Jabra-CLIPPER-Bluetooth-Stereo-Headset/dp/B0040X33SE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1365558265&sr=8-1&keywords=jabra+clipper"]Jabra Clipper[/ame]. The black one on amazon is 60 bucks but i don't think i paid that much when i first bought it. The other colors are only $30. The Jabra Clipper is a blue tooth headset with microphone that allows you to plug in any headphone and will turn the combination into a bluetooth headset as well as bluetooth headphone. That means making calls and listening to music over bluetooth.
I then sourced a flat headphone that will fit in the helmet. I found [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Tooks-SPORTEC-BAND-DRYFIT-Built/dp/B0036ZZ72W/ref=pd_sbs_cps_2"]this[/ame]. You can scrap the headband or keep it if you're the headband type. The headphone cost $20. Might be cheaper if you are able to find headphone only piece.
I took the speaker and they fit perfectly in the little pocket inside my scorpion helmet. I routed the wires underneath the liner and the headphone jack is near the chin area.
The Jabra clipper clips right onto the air skirt underneath with the microphone and control facing up. Pair up the clipper with your phone and you have a Bluetooth headphone/headset. So now you can listen to music while you ride and if you get a phone call you can reach underneath the air skirt to press the center button on the jabra clipper to answer call.
When i received calls on the bike i have ignore it, pull over, takes off glove, helmet, calls the person, sitting on the bike and finishing the conversation before i can go on my way. Now i can answer the phone at the touch of a button, or if i'm clumsy and unable to find the button while wearing glove i can pull over, takes out phone makes call, put phone away and talk while i'm riding.
For those who mount their phone on their handle bar and use it as gps. You can change the music at a touch of a button as well as answering phone (provided you have those glove that is able to control your touch screen phone). I'm not sure if the GPS sound is routed to the bluetooth headset. I haven't tried. But if it does it will be awesome.
