I bought a new headlight and now need a new speedo/tach/odometer

It's got a certain look-that'a true... but maybe not the best thing if you drive a lot at night on dark roads... How many miles you got on your FZ?

How old are you guys and girls with FZ8's?

I'm 64- still love going for a morning ride (on the way to work- 2 more years 'til I retire) or cutting a good line as much as ever

FS: 2011 Yamaha FZ8 Nicely Modded

Dirt cheap for a great bike- mine has 75000 mi., and I just did the first valve adjustment at 72k- I figure mine's about in the middle of its life. I'm actually hoping to get 200,000 miles on mine. I particularly like the linear power band. That's what you need if you're driving LA...

    Need Help

THat's right, what '9 lives' said-(nice orange cat) You probably have at least a hairline crack on that inner cover or plug, maybe on the outside one too . If you want to be really lazy, and economical, you could just fill the crack with something, with what depends on how clean you...

    Maintenance Technical Specifications - FZ8 2011

Fram 6017A oil filter is what I've always used, and it's the same one as the one on my '97 Honda Valkyrie. About $6 at Wal-mart, and you can pick up 5 quarts of Mobil One, 15-50 for $25 at the same time, believe it or not- It ain't rocket science...

Who has the Most Miles on their FZ8?

A lot of guys seem to have problems like that..... makes me wonder if pressure washing the engine is to blame. It forces water in where it never should be. At the very least, if you do pressure wash your engine: give it a good hard run right afterward to boil off any residual water...

Who has the Most Miles on their FZ8?

No, never had tat problem. Although- I was getting this intermittent miss at low speed, which seemed to be due to my plugs having excessive gap (.055 where .030 is the desired gap) which no longer happens with new plugs installed.

    New FZ8 Member

Welcome- I'm here in SoCal as well, Brea, to be exact. I find FZ8's a great bike for everyday riding and splitting those lanes on congested rush hour freeways here. The linear, non-peaky power band of the FZ8 comes in handy when doing that, and when you're in way deep, leaned...

Who has the Most Miles on their FZ8?

I know this is an old post, but here in Dec, 2017 I actually have adjusted the valves, finally, and can also update the current mileage on my bike- I bit the bullet, pulled the tank, air box, intake injection bodies, air induction equip, and a few other things off, and checked the valves...

Engine misses at low rpm- thought it was non valve adjust, but no

I replaced the plugs, but broke the chain damper because I didn't read the manual through to see that you kinda gotta '****' it whereupon it releases the first time the chain hits it and keeps up the tension from there on out. I got a new one, but haven't got it together again. Riding my...

    Yamaha FZ8 Parts for Sale

What about the engine parts and rear wheel? Are you just parting it out or has it been in crash?

Engine misses at low rpm- thought it was non valve adjust, but no

Recently my bike has started to miss on 2 cylinders (it seems, but not sure) when I'm starting from a stop, at real low RPM. It kind of stutters, emits dark gray smoke, and then quickly catches itself, and runs strong on all four. Never seen the smoke myself. I been doing a lot of...

Who has the Most Miles on their FZ8?

2011 FZ8 I got 48,684 miles on mine, and I figure it's good for at least 100k... I work with a guy who has 106k on his 2011 R6 Yamaha, but he's on his third engine... wore one out, and broke another hitting road debris.

    Squid question. Bare with me!

Dude- don't waste $200 + dollars- just plug that tire. I do it any time I get a nail, and it works fine. You just gotta keep an eye on that tire's pressure a little closer until it wears out, which isn't usually too long, anyway. I mean if you didn't even notice the nail, how bad can it...

What did you do to your bike today?

I've had that screen for a year and a half now, and I've never been totally into the look of it, but I gotta say, it does work great, and the mounting system is the cleanest of any of them. Keeps the air off my chest, and makes a nice little bubble of dead air I can stick my helmet into at...

    Engine Valves

I haven't even looked, but I have 25K on mine now, too... The valves are the shim adjustment type? I had an old Fiat that had those; I never did have to adjust them, and never could hear any valve noise. My moto is running fine, I wasn't going to do anything to it, except maybe get a...

    OIL HELP

Yeah, that guy does know his stuff... I use Mobil 1 15-50 ($25 for 5 qts, Walmart) and believe it or not, I got 14,000 miles on the last oil change, and the oil still was not loaded up with dirt or soot, or broken down when I changed it. I just had to change it, out of general principles.

    Passenger grab rail install.

Yeah I did that... they're real good grab bars which I mainly use to tie stuff off to when hauling some thing like a toothbrush or jacket rolled up... ain't much room. The cut pattern is already on the back of the rear cowl, use a dremel and be careful to cut to the correct line...

What to look for after a low side glide.

No damage on the gearshift? I've dropped mine twice, not laid it down, once on ice, and once from forgetting to put the kickstand down, and both times it bent the gearshift or brake lever a little. What kind of tires did you have on it? That info about the forks getting twisted is right...
