    sold the 8

i may be going backwards but i traded in the fz8 for a triumph t100 in black. the dealer gave me $4,200 & i financed the rest. i wasn't using the 8 for its intended purpose & didn't feel all that comfortable on it. the triumph is all day comfortable & way slower but it does look bad ass. i plan...

    Condensation in Gauges?

try using a hair dryer. or drill a small hole & again use a hair dryer. after condensation is gone seal the hole with a dab of clear glue. the gauge cluster does come apart & there's instructions with pics on how to remove & disassemble. do a search. good luck.

    Ergonomics

i switched from a cruiser (road star warrior) to fz8. mold your body to the bike. squeeze the tank with your legs, tighten stomach mussels to take weight off handle bars & when possible ride with the balls of your feet on the pegs. i know, your feet don't have balls but trust me.

    Forks leaking oil.

check lower fork legs for any scratches on the chrome. there is a "motion pro" tool that you can insert into the dust seal that removes trapped grime if no scratches are found on the fork kegs.

    New Guy, First bike.

welcome from ca. i also treated myself to a bike after army games in 1970. aside from frame sliders & swing arm spools, i addressed the fz8s weakness. suspension. save up, spend money on handling, comfort, then all the other goodies.

    Winter Storage!

i clean with a sponge & rags then roll onto a zip-up bag with moisture absorbing dehumidifier containers. when all wrapped up i squeeze my bike cover on, do a little rain dance & go into my cave for the winter. its a month of hell....

    fz1 shock

its good to read that all you are addressing the suspension. a stage5 shock ($900) & ohlins fgk218 fork kit ($1,871) made a big change in how the bike takes a pothole & on the 101 it makes for a smooth ride. .

    under the wrench tommorow

You tube has a lot of information on motorcycle suspension. Loosen both preload adjusters & go for a ride. Now tighten the adjusters & take another ride. In both cases handling suffers. Too loose & the tire wants to wash out & go wide in the turns. To tight you get a bouncy ride.

    under the wrench tommorow

What a difference. I got the bike back & even though I haven't fine tuned preload, rebound or compression, the bike feels much more planted. I see the wheel moving up & down but absolutely no movement at the bars. Money well spent. $900 for the Elka shock., $1750 with labor for the Ohlins 30mm...

after working on my bikes for over 40 years, I'm riding to the shop tomorrow for a full on Ohlins fork upgrade. springs & cartridges. "Super plush suspension" is my choice, recommended by a renowned suspension tuner, dave moss. not cheap but hopefully worth it.

when you close the throttle, the fuel injectors turn off. try rolling off the throttle without closing it all the way.

front fork adj for you 160lb rider

try this, i think you'll like it. with preload, rebound & compression adjusters in the center of their adjustment range, add 2 clicks to the rebound adjuster. for the compression screw, back off 2 clicks. ride your bike for a half hour. if you feel your tire is a little bouncy, tighten your...
